Saturday was a big day for us. We got our first load of wood for our new house! We have a beautiful wood stove in the living room which is large enough to heat about half the house. Since we have an oil furnace and oil is very expensive, we are planning on supplementing with wood this winter.
While I was waiting for the wood to be delivered, I decided to pull back the carpet in the dining room to see what the floor underneath looks like. It's not wall to wall carpet, it's a big bound rug, and it goes almost the whole way to the wall. It's a pretty carpet and I'm sure it would clean up nicely. However, it took me almost 2 hours to vacuum the entire house that first day we were there, and I decided I just don't want to vacuum that much in the future! If I could easily get rid of this rug in the dining room, that would be awesome.
And guess what! The floor underneath is LOVELY! It needs cleaned, but thankfully there is a pad under the rug so the wood is in very good condition.

It's a lovely warm wood, which we love.
The wood guy came shortly afterwards, and delivered 3 face cords (which is roughly a full cord) for a very reasonable price. He was friendly and told us lots of stories while we waited for his dump trailer to finish dumping the wood. He also offered to have his company come and log our woods. We'll see.
I forgot to take a picture of the big pile of wood because I was eager to get to work stacking it. We will eventually build a nice platform for the wood to sit on to keep it dry, but for now we just stacked it near it's future home. I used my amazing new garden cart to haul it across the yard, and that thing is something else. It was easy to pull even when it was stacked full of wood, and very sturdy. I highly recommend getting a Gorilla Cart if you're in the market for a garden cart.
My rather large garden cart dwarfed by the wood pile.
Chad was busy changing the last of the locks. There were a surprising number of locks to change overall, but he did a wonderful job, and we feel much more secure leaving half of our things at the new house while we move. Since he was busy with the locks, I moved the majority of the pile myself. I took a few breaks here and there, and sat under a pretty tree near our garage and just admired how beautiful our new place is. How is this real?
Our sheds are rough and ragged looking, but they're sturdy.
Once Chad finished the last lock, he came and helped me with the remaining wood.
When we were done with the day's work, we sat in our lovely living room and had slices of pumpkin roll to celebrate Chad's birthday!
Pumpkin roll, perhaps the best fall dessert.
We have decided to definitely begin living at Ciderbrook in the middle of October, probably the 14th or 15th. So now we need to get serious and really get things cleaned and ready! Chad's getting the internet turned on next week so he can go and work out there while I finish the cleaning. Country living, here we come!
happy belated chad! the wood floor is a great (and lucky) surprise!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa! The floors were a lovely surprise and I can't wait to get them cleaned up.
DeleteOn reddit they call that winning the floor lottery. It looks great. The whole place is awesome and I am very excited for both of you!
